Sabah Umno Youth chief Sufian Abdul Karim wants all charges against politicians following the 14th general election to be dropped.

This is after Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said yesterday that some charges from that time were “rushed, politically vindictive and flawed”.

In a statement last night, Sufian said this clearly showed there were flaws in the justice system that needed to be rectified.

"These series of charges had wasted the government's resources, including time, money and man hours, just to fulfil an evil political mission.

"By withdrawing the charges, Malaysia can fix the image of its justice system on the international stage," he said.

Among those who were charged under the first Pakatan Harapan are Sufian's boss, Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin.

Bung and his wife Zizie Izette Abdul Samad were charged in an RM2.8 million corruption case.

The High Court had acquitted the couple last year, but the case was reinstated by the Court of Appeal.

Rosmah’s case

Anwar's remarks about flawed prosecution were in response to criticism over Rosmah Mansor's acquittal on money laundering charges.

The judge had allowed Rosmah’s bid to quash the case on the grounds that the charges were defective and failed to disclose the essential elements of the alleged offences.

Anwar, however, stressed that he would not air his own views regarding Rosmah’s case.

He added that the prosecution had clearly disagreed with the judge's ruling, hence why they had filed an appeal.
