Housewives file false robbery report, pawned phones for makeup

Police are investigating two women for allegedly filing a false report claiming the pair had been robbed in Sandakan, Sabah.

According to the investigation, the housewives, aged 34 and 20, reportedly pawned their mobile phones to purchase cosmetics.

Sandakan district police chief Abdul Fuad Abdul Malek revealed that the women lodged the report around noon yesterday.

“In their statement, they alleged that three knife-wielding suspects robbed them of their mobile phones and RM136 in cash,” he was quoted as stating by Sinar Harian.

“However, investigations confirmed that no such incident occurred.

“Instead, the complainants pawned their phones out of desperation to buy cosmetic products,” he said, adding the women allegedly fabricated the robbery story out of fear of being reprimanded by their husbands.

The pair are being investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code for providing false information.

If found guilty, they can face a maximum penalty of six months imprisonment, or with fine which may extend to RM2,000.
