Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng has pointed out that one significant Perikatan Nasional party leader was missing from Bersatu MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal's list of potential PN prime ministerial candidates.

The DAP lawmaker questioned Wan Fayhsal’s omission of PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang from his picks.

“Oddly, Wan Fayhsal did not mention Hadi as a prime ministerial candidate for PN, despite him being the PAS president,” Lim (above, right) said on Facebook today.

He further questioned whether the Bersatu supreme council member considered Hadi unsuitable for the role or if something else was behind Hadi’s exclusion.

“Does Wan Fayhsal think Hadi is not qualified, or is there an issue between PAS and Bersatu that caused Hadi’s name to be left out? It seems like something isn’t being explained here,” Lim added.

The remarks came after Wan Fayhsal suggested that PN’s prime ministerial candidate must have strong ties with the Malay rulers.

He named four leaders as fitting the bill - Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin, PAS vice president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar and PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

Wan Fayhsal had also said that PN needed a paradigm shift to win the support of non-Malays and urbanites.

The relationship between PAS and Bersatu has faced increased scrutiny as both parties vie for influence within the coalition.

PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin recently argued that PAS should lead the opposition bloc.

In an interview with Utusan Malaysia, Hashim affirmed that PAS is ready to nominate its own prime ministerial candidate if necessary.
