'Cabinet didn't discuss addendum gag order, no sandwiches either'

The cabinet has not discussed a gag order on the royal addendum granting former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak house arrest, said Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

“We did not discuss it. We do not instruct the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC),” he told a press conference at his ministry today.

On Jan 13, Najib’s counsel informed that the AGC is seeking a gag order from the Kuala Lumpur High Court on the addendum issue.

Yesterday, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Azalina Othman Said said there shouldn’t be a gag order on Najib’s royal pardon judicial review.

This led to MCA vice-president Lawrence Low earlier today asking if the government is hiding something in relation to the AGC’s actions, saying that the move is contrary to the government’s previous stand in championing transparency.

No sandwich talk

Fahmi said the cabinet had also not discussed the controversy over a ham and cheese sandwich that allegedly used the halal logo fraudulently.

“We weren’t served sandwiches today either,” he quipped.

Over the weekend KK Mart found itself embroiled in controversy once again after complaints about a ham and cheese sandwich being sold at some outlets bearing the halal logo.

Critics had questioned how a ham product - on the assumption it was pork - could be labelled as halal.

KK Mart later clarified that the sandwiches - produced by Shake and Bake Cafe Sdn Bhd - had used chicken ham which was halal certified.

However, authorities found that Shake and Bake Cafe did not have halal certification for the sandwich or for its manufacturing facility.
