Bersatu vice-president Ronald Kiandee has taken aim at political rivals during a recent party event in Sabah by referencing the ongoing corruption scandal that has rocked the state.

Speaking at a ceramah in Kudat last Thursday, Ronald mocked opponents over video clips allegedly showing individuals discussing bribes involving sums of RM500,000, RM400,000, and RM300,000.

“They say we are nobodies… that’s true because we weren’t captured in the videos - the videos talking about RM500,000, RM400,000, RM300,000,” quipped the Beluran MP and Sabah Bersatu chairperson.

Ronald’s remarks seem to position Bersatu as a cleaner and more transparent alternative in Sabah’s heated political climate, where corruption scandals have dominated headlines.

The state is bracing for an election expected to take place later this year.

In November last year, Sabah’s political scene was rocked by an exposé by Malaysiakini, which reported a whistleblower claiming to have evidence of corruption involving eight assemblypersons, including Chief Minister Hajiji Noor.

Hajiji dismissed the incriminating videos as “edited” and denied the corruption claims but later suggested the recorded conversations could have been about political donations.

On Jan 3, MACC chief Azam Baki confirmed that investigators were working on the graft scandal and expected to complete their investigation by the end of January.
