Police are pursuing two individuals suspected of involvement in vandalising a KK Mart outlet at Universiti Malaya (UM) with red paint three days ago.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Mohd Isa said investigations found that the suspects, both men, arrived at the premises on a motorcycle before committing the act of vandalism.
He explained that the store had been temporarily closed since Jan 10, while the vandalism occurred at approximately 12.30am on Tuesday.
“During the incident, an employee from the adjacent shop heard noises and saw the paint being splashed.
“Based on the information and investigations conducted, the police are actively tracking the two individuals involved,” he told a press conference today, as reported by Sinar Harian.
Rusdi also appealed to the public to come forward with any information that could assist in the investigation.
“Any information, no matter how small or significant, could help us track down the suspects,” he added.
The incident occurred at the KK Mart outlet in Kompleks Perdana Siswa (KPS) on the UM campus.
This follows the UM management’s decision to close two KK Mart outlets on campus after questions were raised regarding the halal status of sandwiches sold there.
Previously, KK Mart clarified that the sandwiches were produced by Shake and Bake Cafe Sdn Bhd and sold on various platforms, including KK Mart’s Concept Store outlets.
However, the convenience store chain stated that Shake and Bake Cafe was not authorised to use KK Mart’s logo on the packaging, which the manufacturer had included without permission.
