Warisan: Our values consistent, Harapan left us for power

Warisan has fired back at Pakatan Harapan, saying it has stuck to its principles while accusing the coalition of ditching it to form the Sabah government.

This came after a PKR leader told Warisan, which cooperates with Harapan in the federal government, not to forsake political stability by planning to run solo in the Sabah polls this year.

“Harapan and Warisan have worked closely together in Sabah, and there were even Harapan candidates who ran under the Warisan banner in the last election,” said Warisan information chief Azis Jamman in a statement yesterday.

“When Warisan was offered to join the federal government while Muhyiddin Yassin was prime minister, we rejected and chose to stick with Harapan as the opposition.

“But when BN pulled support from the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government in Sabah, Harapan chose to leave Warisan and form the government with GRS.

“So, the question is, who left whom?” asked Azis (above).

He added that Warisan president Shafie Apdal, in a federal government meeting with the prime minister, announced that Warisan would remain in the opposition in Sabah as a check-and-balance.

Azis was responding to PKR communications director Lee Chean Chung who questioned if Warisan planned to be double agents.

“Are they planning to leave the coalition government or play a double role where they enjoy government resources while acting as an opposition?” Lee said.

For the record, Shafie’s brother Yusof Apdal is the Sabah science, technology, and innovation deputy minister.

PKR swings back

In a statement today, Sabah PKR information chief Razeef Rakimin swung back at Warisan.

He pointed out how the Sabah-based party’s ambitions led it to butt heads with Harapan when it set its sights on seats in the peninsula.

“Warisan left Harapan when it chose to contest on its own in the 15th general election.

“In fact, Warisan started to go off on its own after choosing to contest the Johor state polls which resulted in all of its candidates losing their deposits,” he said.

Razeef added that as Harapan and Warisan are together in the federal government, the focus should be on developing the country instead of taking actions which could disrupt political stability.
