A total of 300 heads of households in the Ayer Kuning state constituency in Perak are receiving assistance from the Social Welfare Department (SWD) involving an allocation of RM150,000 per month.

Menteri Besar Saarani Mohamad said the recipients, comprising the poor, the elderly and the disabled, received cash assistance in different amounts according to their respective categories.

“Some elderly residents received RM600, the visually impaired received RM500 per month, while other categories get different amounts of cash assistance,” he said.

He told reporters after the state government’s Charity Programme with SWD aid recipients which was also attended by Perak Women, Family, Social Welfare, Cooperatives and Entrepreneur Development Committee exco Salbiah Mohamed, today.

Meanwhile, Salbiah said that based on data of SWD aid recipients until February this year, a total of 52,057 people have benefited from all SWD monthly federal or state aid schemes.

“The state government has allocated RM45.94 million this year for various types of aid which can benefit 6,000 recipients in the state,” she said.

Meanwhile, Salbiah in her speech said that one of the state government’s efforts to eradicate hardcore poverty was contributed by the synergistic collaboration of the Perak State Hardcore Poverty Eradication Task Force.

Salbiah said that the effort through the involvement of all aid-giving agencies together with the district administrations throughout Perak as well as the implementation of the One-Stop Social Welfare Centre Initiative brings together all agencies related to poverty eradication.
