Indonesian Muslims to celebrate Eid on Monday

Muslims in Indonesia will celebrate Eid on Monday, said the country’s Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar last night.

During a press conference at the ministry, he confirmed that 1 Syawal 1446 Hijri will fall on March 31, 2025.

The announcement followed the conclusion of the Isbat conference (the meeting to determine the date of Syawal), which involved ministry officials, the Indonesian Ulama Council, astronomers, and members of the Indonesian House of Representatives, as well as representatives from embassies in Indonesia.

Also present was the Religious Attaché at the Malaysian Embassy Shamsuri Ghazali.

“Tonight (March 29), Tarawih prayers will still be performed across Indonesia. We hope that as a result of this meeting, all Muslims in Indonesia can joyfully celebrate Eid,” Nasaruddin said.

Muslims in the republic began fasting on March 1.

Indonesia is the country with the world’s largest Muslim majority, with 87 percent of its more than 282 million people adhering to Islam.
