A DAP leader berated Perikatan Nasional election director Sanusi Nor for accusing the former’s party of being responsible for the rise of polarisation in the country.

Accusing PAS of making a habit out of lying, especially during elections, DAP Youth chief Woo Kah Leong urged the Islamist party to self-reflect.

“Who accused the non-Malays and non-Muslims of being the cause of corruption in Malaysia?

“Who made up stories about Malaysians waving China flags when the state police chief himself confirmed it was done by Chinese nationals?” Woo (above) asked in a statement today.

Yesterday, Sanusi accused DAP of fanning the flames of racial tensions in the nation, claiming that the country can only be saved if the party is removed from the local political scene.

"Those who are stirring up racial sentiments in this nation are not (from) PN, PAS or Bersatu, but DAP," the Kedah menteri besar told attendees of a PN ceramah in Bidor last night for the Ayer Kuning by-election.

"BN's candidate (for the by-election) sits with DAP - a dangerous, chauvinistic party.

"Even though they (DAP) present themselves in a soft-spoken manner with a gentle tongue, believe me, history has shown that since DAP's establishment, our country has become more and more heated with racial issues," he added.

Lawsuits

Unimpressed, Woo continued to remind Sanusi of PAS’ slander against DAP, which included accusing the party veteran Lim Kit Siang of being related to Chin Peng, the former leader of the now-defunct Communist Party of Malaya.

The Pasir Bedamar assemblyperson also reminded Sanusi of how he insulted Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Tiong King Sing by calling him “pot-bellied deity”.

“As an expert in flaring up racist issues, PAS has no right to accuse anyone of being racist,” Woo said, adding that PAS had lost several lawsuits over slander.

Further, Woo said PAS’ slander culture should never be normalised, especially when the people are yearning for a mature and fact-based leadership.

The DAP leader asserted that PAS and PN are amplifying racial rhetoric to divert attention from their failure to offer constructive policies to the people.

“They speak softly, yet it’s filled with venom. This is PAS, which claims to be championing Islam but at the same time, plants the seeds of hatred among Malaysians,” Woo added.
