PAS more successful now than when it was with DAP - Takiyuddin

PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan has rubbished a claim that the Islamist party is unable to move on from DAP.

On the contrary, the Kota Bharu MP said PAS has found more success after parting ways with DAP.

"Back when we were with DAP in Pakatan Rakyat, we did get a lot of votes, but after leaving and joining PN (Perikatan Nasional), PAS gained even more seats. The number has increased.

"That is the measure - who we are with when we achieve greater success," he told reporters at the Indian Unity Festival organised by the Malaysian Indian People's Party (MIPP) at the Midlands Convention Centre in Shah Alam.

Takiyuddin (above) was commenting on Umno vice-president Khaled Nordin’s statement that PAS could not move on after severing ties with DAP.

Jealousy claim

Khaled had claimed that PAS appeared jealous seeing DAP, its former ally, now on good terms with BN.

PAS has the highest number of parliamentary seats, with 43, compared to DAP (40) and Umno (26).

The Islamist party had worked with DAP on a number of occasions, the last being from 2008 to 2015 as part of then opposition pact Pakatan.

However, ideological differences ultimately forced the two apart, and they have been bitter foes ever since.
