PN launches Reset 2027 for betterment of Indian community

Perikatan Nasional has launched its “Reset 2027” vision as part of the opposition coalition’s long-term agenda to garner support from the Indian community for the next general election.

PN chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin officiated the launch during the Indian Unity Festival hosted by MIPP at the Midlands Convention Centre in Shah Alam yesterday.

MIPP president P Punithan said Reset 2027 acts as a “framework” for MIPP’s initiatives aimed at strengthening the Indian community, particularly by resetting educational, social, and economic transformations for the group.

While he did not elaborate on the vision’s details, Punithan said it is meant to present the people with an alternative to the Madani government at a time when the nation’s political landscape is transforming.

He asserted that Malaysia is shifting towards a two-party system between Pakatan Harapan and PN.

“Over the past two decades, the Indian community has been regarded as a vote bank without any obligation for political leaders to reciprocate, (despite how) their support was crucial in removing BN from power and bringing about change,” Punithan told Malaysiakini.

“However, Harapan and the Madani government have failed to uphold the promises made to the community (during the previous general election), which saw 85 percent of Indian voters supporting Harapan.

“The government under Harapan has left much to be desired. I believe that by launching Reset 2027, PN can become a better alternative for Indian voters in the upcoming general election,” he added.

Nobody should be left behind

The vision, he said, should be about expanding opportunities for all to guarantee that Malaysia is a nation where every child, regardless of race or religion, is seen as a valuable asset to the country.

In a speech, Punithan said MIPP will mobilise its party machinery to engage with the Indian community to gather detailed feedback so that the Reset 2027 agenda is not merely a self-serving initiative.

“PN is a government-in-waiting for the 16th general election in 2027 or perhaps earlier... However, we cannot wait until the last minute. We believe and are confident that we will take over the government in the 16th general election,” he added.
