Still no nominations for PKR presidency, deputy

There are still no candidates for PKR presidency and deputy presidency, although nominations for central leadership positions in the party have opened since midnight earlier today.

A check by Malaysiakini as of 8.30pm today via the PKR election website found that no nominations have been submitted for the party’s two top posts.

The nomination process is conducted online. Leaders intending to contest still have until 11.59pm on May 9 to submit their nominations.

It is expected that Anwar Ibrahim will retain the president’s post uncontested. As for the deputy president post, three figures have been mooted as potential contenders.

The incumbent, Rafizi Ramli, has announced he will defend his deputy presidency. The two other names said to be considering a challenge are Anwar’s daughter, Nurul Izzah, and Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

Both are taking a wait-and-see approach.

Nine leaders have submitted nominations for the four vice-president posts.

Among them are Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Science and Technology Minister Chang Lih Kang, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun, and Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister R Ramanan.

Also contesting are PKR deputy secretary-general Dr Sathia Prakash Nadarajan, Segamat MP R Yuneswaran, Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin, Senator Abun Sui Anyit, and former Selangor exco member Hee Loy Sian.

Other prominent figures vying for a spot in the central leadership council include Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, Deputy Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Akmal Nasir, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim, prime minister’s political secretary Chan Ming Kai, and former education minister Maszlee Malik.
