YOURSAY | ‘Is Russia so important to us that we are afraid of asking them critical questions?’
Don’t get dragged into geopolitical games: Anwar’s aide on MH17
Gerard Lourdesamy: Does that mean that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is going to ignore the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation’s) findings, despite it being a UN agency? Or are we going to accuse the ICAO of a Western bias?
So why not also ignore the UN’s resolutions, findings, and reports on Palestine because of their anti-Israel bias? Foreign policy must be based on principles.
The loss of 43 Malaysian lives in the MH17 disaster does not matter to Anwar? This is disgraceful.
Is Russia so important to us that we are afraid of asking them critical questions and demanding justice for the victims of this tragedy that killed some 90 children?
In the future, we should invite Russia and its supporters to shoot down our civilian aircraft anywhere in the world because we are not going to ask questions.
Was the shooting down of a Korean Airlines plane by the Russians in 1983 also geopolitical games? Don’t be daft. Are we suggesting that Ukraine shot down MH17?
Do we have evidence to support that supposition? What this statement proves is that Malaysia has become a harlot in diplomatic terms.
We will sleep with anybody so long as it’s in our interests. So much for Anwar’s claims to the moral high ground in foreign affairs.
BusinessFirst: My apologies if this comes out wrongly, but who is this guy (Anwar’s aide Kamil Abdul Munim)?
Is he a minister or even deputy minister? Was he elected as an MP or even a state assemblyperson? At least, was he appointed a senator to represent some group?
A career diplomat who has served many postings or achieved something notable in the public sphere, perhaps?
If not even that, perhaps a graduate from Harvard Kennedy School of Public Policy or some other storied university acknowledged for its rigour and insight as a PHD or postgraduate student?
As far as I can tell, he is a young man aged 35 who graduated in law from a local university and practised as a lawyer for a few years.
The only claim to fame is that he is an aide to PMX (Anwar).
Just one word of advice, I think the public is sick and tired of Anwar’s aides. Some seem to appear later in the spotlight for one reason or another, embarrassing many people.
An aide perhaps just stays in the background and assists his boss in private and does not pontificate on matters which, in my opinion, he has no experience or background in.
OnlyTruth: Many Malaysian lives were lost in that sad tragedy, and I personally witnessed the string of Malaysian ambulances bringing back the remains of our citizens from the airport.
We mimicked what the Dutch did to their deceased citizens. Malaysians were emotionally disturbed by that event.
Now, it has been positively established by the respected news agency Reuters that it was the Russians who were responsible.
It is utterly irresponsible for this Kamil fellow to remark, “Let us not be easily dragged into the games of major powers by helping to direct the enemy’s bullets towards us.
“Politicising the MH17 tragedy is the lowest level of opportunism in pursuit of cheap political gain.”
What nonsense. I fully support the PAS information chief that Anwar should demand justice from Russian President Vladimir Putin when he meets him. This will be the most opportune moment.
Boycott GE16: This is a most irresponsible statement from PKR.
Forty-three Malaysian lives perished in the MH17 tragedy, yet Anwar not only failed to demand compensation from Putin, but his party now conveniently claims Malaysia should not be dragged into geopolitical games.
A prime minister who dares not stand up for his citizens is unfit to lead the country!
If Malaysia wishes to avoid geopolitical entanglements, then Anwar should not meddle in the Middle East, support Hamas, or donate RM100 million in taxpayers’ funds to Hamas!
The prime minister also should not attempt to mediate the India-Pakistan conflict when it’s clear the attack was initiated by Pakistan!
Why is Malaysia consistently on the wrong side of history under Anwar’s leadership?
No wonder Anwar was snubbed by two US presidents - an unprecedented global diplomatic disgrace!
Anwar must demand justice from Russia, or he should resign as Malaysia’s prime minister.
Since he has zero ability to defend his own rakyat, he has no moral ground to defend Palestine or Pakistan, period!
Falcon: Kamil, you are no Henry Kissinger (former US secretary of state) but a young aide of the Malaysian prime minister.
The duty of an aide is to assist their employer, not create controversies by indulging in issues above their pay grade.
You should be mature enough to know which issues to address, which to avoid and which never to aggravate. And among them, geopolitical issues.
Are you using this as a platform for the PKR elections for publicity? I hope not!
Let me remind you that MH17 had 283 passengers and 15 crew members who were killed. Some of us lost friends on MH17 as well.
So do us a favour, stay in your lane, as you, like other overzealous and self-serving insiders, are not helping the prime minister with such juvenile analysis and tantrums - period!
