Fifteen Masjid Tanah PKR division office bearers who won the recent party polls have quit with immediate effect.

Two sources from Malacca and PKR headquarters confirmed the matter with Malaysiakini.

“I’m aware that 15 Masjid Tanah PKR division office bearers had quit. Among them are its deputy division chief Sunar Misran, vice-chief Lee Kin Mio, and 13 committee members,” said the source from Malacca PKR.

Meanwhile, the source from the party’s headquarters confirmed receiving their resignation letters at 12.30pm.

“From what I understand, they resigned because they have lost faith in Masjid Tanah division chief Halim Bachik’s leadership,” the source mentioned.

For the record, Masjid Tanah PKR is one of the divisions where the “body without the head” phenomenon occurred.

In the election for the division, Halim defeated his challenger, Amran Othman. However, those aligned to the latter won the positions they contested.

The “body without the head” term refers to a situation where a group aligned to a particular leader wins in the party polls, but the leader himself loses.

Meanwhile, PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said she could not confirm the resignations.

“I cannot verify (the resignations). I’m not in the office. I haven’t received (the letters of resignation) and the headquarters do not know their contents.

“Because the letters were addressed to the secretary-general,” she said when contacted, confirming the party headquarters have indeed received some letters addressed to her.
