PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh has denied allegations that her office had leaked incumbent deputy president Rafizi Ramli’s confidential letter to party president Anwar Ibrahim.

In a brief message to Malaysiakini, Fuziah refuted Rafizi’s claim regarding a leak of the letter in which he declined an invitation to officiate the party’s Youth and Women’s wing congresses.

“Not true letter (sent) to president and secretary-general only,” said Fuziah (above), adding that the same letter was also forwarded to PKR Youth.

“It did not leak from the secretary-general’s office.”

Fuziah also pointed out that incumbent PKR Youth chief Adam Adli Abdul Halim confirmed receiving Rafizi’s letter yesterday.

Responding to initial reports quoting party sources, Adam said PKR Youth has asked Rafizi to reconsider his decision not to officiate the PKR Youth and Women’s congresses opening ceremony on May 22.

Speaking at the “Jelajah Hiruk” programme in Ipoh last night, Rafizi claimed the letter was only addressed to two people - Anwar and Fuziah.

“I only wrote to two people - Anwar and one other. Yet the letter was leaked. How did that happen? It wasn’t just the news that got out, the whole letter did,” he said.

Rafizi also said parties had twisted the leak to attack him, but he was actually waiting for an opportunity to counter his critics on the recent Sabah state election machinery launch.

Rafizi argued that while it is customary for the deputy president to officiate the Youth and Women’s congresses, his role also includes launching key party machinery, especially in the lead-up to an election.
