Stop family drama, bring real economic change, PAS MP tells govt

A PAS leader today urged Malaysians to punish the Anwar Ibrahim-led government in the next general election over its alleged failure in managing the economy.

In a cryptic statement, Bachok MP Syahir Sulaiman claimed the government was only dishing out a “family drama” and chanting slogans instead of bringing real changes that benefit the people.

“If the Madani economy is a theatrical performance, then the rakyat is its audience. While they remain quiet while being seated in front of the stage, they are actually actively criticising among themselves.

“The main characters are played by ‘kroni-keluarga’ (a group of family members and their cronies). Although they seem to be in sync on stage, in reality, they are always backstabbing each other, fighting over the economic cake, which is getting smaller,” he said.

While Syahir did not name anyone specifically, it is believed he was taking a jab at the recently concluded PKR elections, which saw Anwar’s daughter Nurul Izzah winning the party deputy presidency race.

She defeated Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli with an over 6,000-vote majority.

Adding further, Syahir, who is the political secretary to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, said the Madani economy should put the people’s needs above all else.

According to him, despite the government spewing campaign slogans, claiming Malaysia’s economy is strong, stable, and resilient, the people have been feeling the opposite.

“If the Madany economy really wants to achieve what they have been chanting, then it must be more than just being a mere theatrical performance.

“There must be real changes that elevate the rakyat’s economy, instead of making the people an audience to an endless drama of ‘family politics’.

“The time has come for the rakyat to switch to a welfare economy and a solution-based political approach, which is based on mature political culture and prosperity,” Syahir said.
