'I stand on my own': Izzah again rebuts nepotism label ahead of PKR polls

On the eve of the crucial party election, PKR deputy presidential candidate Nurul Izzah Anwar has once again rebutted claims of nepotism.

In a video clip posted on her Instagram account, she said she stands on her own for the causes she believes in, fighting for a better Malaysia.

She noted that when her father, Prime Minister and PKR president Anwar Ibrahim was imprisoned, the doors to universities and to the future - which should belong to the youth - were shut, one by one.

“They say politics is not for women like me. They say I don’t deserve to be here.

“They call it nepotism, but I never used power. Every step I took, I took on my own - on the streets, in a sea of people, for the people and for true justice.

“Not behind walls of power, but on the ground. Because this is not about positions. This is about struggle. This is about Malaysia,” said Anwar’s eldest daughter.

Nurul Izzah expressed her belief in a Malaysia that does not judge individuals based on religion or skin colour.

“I don’t want to lead just one group, one voice, one class. I want to build a platform that unites everyone - not just to weather the storm, but to rise stronger from it all,” she proclaimed.

She is challenging incumbent deputy president Rafizi Ramli in a heated contest.

Voting for the party’s central leadership is set to take place tomorrow.
