The halal certification for two five-star hotels in Malacca has been revoked following an event resembling an alcohol party on the premises.

The Malacca Islamic Religious Department's (Jaim) enforcement division conducted a raid at the hotels while the event was ongoing after receiving a public complaint, revealed state executive councillor Rahmad Mariman.

He stated that during the raid, authorities found that event organisers had used kitchen equipment certified as halal.

“The hotel management admitted to the offence, and we took firm action by immediately revoking the halal certification that had been issued five years ago,” Harian Metro quoted him as saying at a government event in Malacca today.

Rahmad (above), who is also the deputy chairperson of the Malacca Islamic Religious Council, said both hotels have been given three months to reapply for halal certification.

Should Jaim be satisfied with the corrective actions taken, he said the halal certification may be reinstated, provided all conditions are met and the same offence has not been repeated.

He explained that the state government’s strict approach was meant to restore public confidence in halal-certified locations in Malacca.

“At the state government level, we will not host any programmes at hotels without halal certification until they gain their certificates,” he added.
