Amirudin: 'Hypocritical' PAS used to back Azam

Hurling brickbats at PAS, PKR vice-president Amirudin Shari said the Islamist party used to back MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki.

He said this after a PAS leader insisted that PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar should seek Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to end Azam’s contract.

“The matter (the push to end Azam’s contract) is in discussion and will take time.

“PAS used to support Azam, now they want his tenure to end. What a hypocrite,” Amirudin (above) told the press in Selayang today.

During her campaign for the PKR deputy presidency, Nurul Izzah had vowed to raise Azam’s third contract extension with Anwar if elected to the post.

Nurul Izzah eventually won the PKR deputy presidency, defeating incumbent Rafizi Ramli.

Soon after, PAS Youth vice-chief Hanif Jamaluddin urged Nurul Izzah to fulfil her pledge and voice out against Azam’s tenure extension.

It should be noted that Anwar had defended his decision to extend Azam’s tenure, saying the latter has shown “extraordinary courage” in tackling high-level corruption.

“There are those who talk, and the opposition is making noise about the extension of Azam’s contract. I want to say that I do not deny the criticisms that have been raised,” said the PKR president.
