  • Selangor Pakatan Harapan expresses full support for Amirudin Shari remaining as the menteri besar.

  • State leaders from Harapan coalition parties stress the importance of continuity in Selangor's top leadership.

  • They also point to his role in strengthening the national agenda, including the cooperation with BN ahead of the next general election.

Selangor Pakatan Harapan threw its full support behind Amirudin Shari remaining as the state menteri besar.

In a joint statement, state leaders from PKR, DAP and Amanah said continuity in Selangor's top leadership will send a positive sign to investors and the business community in the state.

"As an experienced administrator, we also believe that Amirudin’s services are vital to ensuring Selangor continues to be the nation’s economic powerhouse, thereby contributing to the success of the Madani Malaysia agenda spearheaded by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim," they said.

The leaders are Selangor PKR deputy chairperson Borhan Aman Shah, state DAP chairperson Ng Sze Han, and state Amanah chairperson Izham Hashim.

This came amid speculation that Amirudin (above) is being eyed for an unspecified federal post following Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad’s resignation from the cabinet.

Such a move could be justified using Rafizi and Nik Nazmi’s own arguments about the composition of ministers reflecting the outcome of the PKR polls.

While Rafizi lost the deputy presidency and Nik Nazmi failed to become a vice-president, Amirudin excelled, winning the most votes among the four elected vice-presidents.

However, the Gombak MP said he intended to remain as menteri besar until his term ends in 2028, citing advice from Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah to ensure unity and stability.

‘Amirudin’s role essential’

In their statement, the trio described Amirudin's role in the cooperation with BN ahead of the next general election as "essential".

"His experience and leadership have been key to the unity achieved, which led to victory and the formation of the unity government in Selangor during the last state election," they added.

They further said Amirudin is needed to ensure a strong and stable state government to roll out planned policies and initiatives.

This includes the Second Selangor Plan, the development of the third port in Pulau Carey, the Iltizam Selangor Penyayang agenda and the Shah Alam Stadium Complex, they added.
