Sanusi denies Hadi quitting, says PAS and Muslim world need him

Kedah Menteri Besar Sanusi Nor has dismissed rumours that PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang is planning to step down.

He emphasised that both the Islamist party and the wider Muslim world still need the 77-year-old politician, who is referred to as Tok Guru, despite his deteriorating health.

“Indeed, his health has slightly deteriorated, but he is still capable of fulfilling his responsibilities well. In fact, Tok Guru himself has never expressed any desire to step down at any official party event before.

“But some people are making up stories that Tok Guru wants to resign,” Sanusi (above) said, blaming this on those who are intimidated by Hadi.

According to Harakah, the menteri besar said Hadi is still capable of carrying out his duties as president effectively and continues to provide insightful ideas that the party needs.

“It’s not easy to find a leader who has ideas, a healthy mind, and strength that exceeds physical capabilities. Tok Guru’s thoughts and views remain relevant and of the highest quality.

“Tok Guru is not just a party figure, but he also plays a significant role on the international stage,” he added.

Harapan blamed

Sanusi said PAS members throughout Malaysia want Hadi to continue serving as the party’s president, and that he is also needed by the Muslim world due to his vast experience.

“The Muslim world needs his experience in building relationships with international bodies, resolving humanitarian and political conflicts, and bridging differences between Islamic sects,” he added.

Kedah PAS commissioner Ahmad Yahaya blamed Pakatan Harapan for the rumours, claiming it was an attempt to divert public attention from major national issues.

“The issue of Petronas employees being laid off, the case of Yusoff Rawther, the poor governance of the country, and others.

“They are trying to cover up those major issues, and the media appears to be intentionally highlighting other matters to divert public focus,” he added.
