Ex-MACC chief Dzulkifli joins Umno

Former MACC chief commissioner Dzulkifli Ahmad has officially joined Umno.

Dzulkifli submitted his membership form for the BN linchpin to Merbau Kudong Umno chief Ramli Daud during a brief ceremony in Sungai Dua, Penang, last night.

Noting that he had taken considerable time to evaluate the matter before coming to a decision, Dzulkifli said he feels the time has come for him to be an active party member.

“God willing, I will continue my work helping the people in Tasek Gelugor, which I have previously been doing in my personal capacity and through my office,” Utusan Malaysia quoted him as saying.

He stressed that his priorities centre on ensuring the community is served, regardless of race or religion.

Adding that he is an ordinary Umno member, Dzulkifli said he chose the party due to its past dominance and expressed a desire to bring a “fresh breath of life” to it.

During the 2022 general election, widespread rumours claimed that Dzulkifli would contest as a candidate for the Tasek Gelugor parliamentary seat. However, such speculations did not materialise.

He was appointed chief commissioner of the anti-graft agency on Aug 1, 2016. He resigned in May 2018 following Pakatan Harapan’s win at the 14th general election.
