Developments in national-level issues allegedly stemming from Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim have prompted PAS Youth to rebrand its upcoming July 26 rally.

While the opposition party’s youth wing had initially planned for the gathering to protest against the government’s proposed Urban Renewal Act (URA), the theme of the rally has now been changed to call for Anwar to step down.

PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden claimed that various issues affecting the nation since the Madani government assumed power can be traced back to one person - Anwar.

“Therefore, PAS Youth declares that the rally on July 26 in Kuala Lumpur will be renamed from a protest against the URA to the ‘Turun Anwar’ rally.

“I call on all Malaysians, political parties, and PKR supporters dissatisfied with Anwar to attend the rally,” Afnan (above) told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

The Alor Setar MP also asserted that Anwar is the “root of all problems” affecting the country.

“Replace this person (Anwar) and God willing, some of the country’s issues will be resolved.

“I don’t mean we want to ‘tebuk atap’ (seize power undemocratically), but we believe there are many others within the Pakatan Harapan-BN coalition who are qualified to be prime minister,” he added.

Earlier, he cited several issues he alleged are linked to Anwar, including the lawsuit filed by Anwar's former aide Yusoff Rawther against him, the supposed failure of the reform agenda, apparent curbs on freedom of expression, and the rising cost of living.
