  • Umno supreme council member Puad Zarkashi jokes that former Umno leaders such as Khairy Jamaluddin, PKR MP Rafizi Ramli, and others should form a new party.

  • However, he wonders whether the party could stand given the leaders’ strong opinions and prominent backgrounds.

An Umno supreme council member suggested that former Umno leaders such as Khairy Jamaluddin, PKR MP Rafizi Ramli, and others should form a party.

“It would be nice if Rafizi, Khairy, Nik Nazmi (Nik Ahmad), Shahril Hamdan, Akmal Nasir, Syed Saddiq (Syed Abdul Rahman), Wan Saiful Wan Jan, and Larry Sng form a new party together.

“In football, when star players come together, the team turns formidable and becomes champions for years,” said Puad Zarkashi on Facebook today.

“As for the individuals mentioned, they hold between seven and 10 MP seats. A solid bargaining power when no single party holds the majority in Malaysia.”

On May 28, Rafizi and Nik Nazmi quit as ministers after being defeated at the PKR polls for the deputy presidency and a vice-presidency post, respectively.

While they quit their cabinet positions, the duo remained PKR members.

Syed Saddiq, the Muar MP, remains a member of Muda despite quitting the party presidency after being convicted by the Kuala Lumpur High Court over criminal breach of trust.

Sng, the Julau MP, already serves as Parti Bangsa Malaysia’s president.

However, Puad pondered how they could work together as a unit given their prominent backgrounds and their strong and differing views on issues.

“Anyway, good luck trying to make our democracy more diverse,” said the Johor state assembly speaker.
