Anwar holds meeting with BN MPs at official residence

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim held a meeting with BN MPs at his official residence in Seri Perdana Complex, last night, Bernama reported.

The meeting is believed to be focused on current issues, including matters related to the upcoming parliamentary sitting.

Bernama reported that a vehicle carrying Defence Minister Khaled Nordin was seen entering the Seri Perdana compound at 7.20pm, followed by Deputy Prime Minister and BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at 7.40pm.

Media personnel were reportedly stationed at the entrance of the residence from 7pm to monitor developments.

Astro Awani reported that the meeting that lasted for over an hour ended at 9.20pm, with Anwar leaving at 9.34pm.

The meeting comes ahead of his scheduled meeting with Pakatan Harapan MPs - which is taking place amid controversies over senior judicial appointments - and just a day after former PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli’s forum to discuss judicial issues.

Malaysiakini learned that Harapan MPs and senators have been invited to meet Anwar at the prime minister’s official residence in Putrajaya on July 14 at 4.30pm.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said that MPs will be briefed on judicial appointments and will have the opportunity to seek clarification on the matter, The Star reported.

Loke told reporters that the cabinet had discussed this matter yesterday, and it was made clear that the appointment process for the next chief justice is ongoing.

Notably, on the same day as Anwar’s scheduled meeting, the Malaysian Bar will assemble at the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya at 2pm before undertaking a 2.6km march to the Prime Minister’s Office to present a memorandum containing four demands.
