Amanah Youth urges Putrajaya to block Trump ally as US envoy

Amanah Youth has urged Putrajaya to reject the nomination of conservative commentator Nick Adams as the next United States ambassador to Malaysia, claiming that his appointment would open the door to opposing ideals.

Not hiding his disdain for Adams, Amanah Youth’s international bureau chairperson Mus’ab Muzahar deemed his nomination an “insult” to Malaysia’s dignity and foreign policy.

He stressed that Malaysia upholds sovereignty, regional peace and solidarity with the oppressed, particularly the Palestinians.

“(Adams) is neither a diplomat nor a statesman. He is merely a far-right propagandist, a staunch Trumpist (supporter of US President Donald Trump) and an outspoken supporter of the Zionist Israeli regime.

“His social media rhetoric is filled with hate, racism, and Islamophobic sentiments, which are clearly at odds with the spirit of a mature bilateral relationship. Allowing him into Malaysia would open the door to America’s toxic agenda and politics of hate,” Mus’ab said in a statement today.

He added that the appointment should be rejected “without the need for any justification”, highlighting that Malaysia’s sovereignty grants it the right to determine who is fit to represent a foreign country here.

“This is not a personal matter - it is a matter of principle and national dignity. Malaysia is not a testing ground for America’s political puppets who have failed in their own country.

“We demand diplomacy that upholds justice, not propaganda that divides the world,” he said.

Mus’ab also asserted that rejecting Adams’ nomination would not pose a threat to Malaysia’s relations with the US.

“Instead, it sends a clear message that Malaysia is principled, dignified, and will not bow to America’s geopolitical games,” he claimed.

‘Alpha male’

On July 11, Trump announced that Australian-American influencer, author, and self-described “Alpha male” Adams will serve as the next US ambassador to Malaysia.

The New York Times, in a report on Adams’ nomination, described the 40-year-old as a “fawning supporter” of Trump who has amassed a conservative following.

Online, Adams is known for his posts promoting a personal image based on “stereotypical symbols of masculinity” like eating steak and frequenting Hooters - the chain restaurant famous for its scantily dressed waitresses.

Adams is also said to have a history of Islamophobic remarks against Trump’s political rivals in his online commentary by railing against purported efforts to “teach Islam in schools” while questioning the late Pope Francis’ remark telling Greek Christians to love Muslims.

His confirmation by the Senate would see him replace Edgard Kagan, a career diplomat who was nominated by former president Joe Biden in May 2023.
