Umno Youth: Delaying Najib’s house arrest akin to betraying rulers

Umno Youth information chief Sollehin Tajie has issued a stern warning that the royal addendum allowing former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak to serve his sentence under house arrest must be enforced without delay or political excuses.

He stressed any refusal or hesitation would amount to an act of “penderhakaan” - a betrayal of the Malay rulers and an affront to the sanctity of the monarchy.

“Umno Youth will continue to be a bulwark defending the sovereignty of the monarchy, the supremacy of the Constitution, and the principles of a sovereign nation.

“We will not remain silent when there are parties challenging the foundations of this country,” he said on Facebook.

Training his guns on those questioning the royal addendum - particularly DAP MP Lim Lip Eng - Sollehin said such remarks were deeply regrettable and amounted to belittling the monarchy and challenging the very foundations of the Federal Constitution.

He stressed that this is not about Umno’s agenda or a political request, but a royal decree validated through official and lawful national channels that demands full and unquestioning adherence.

“Is Lim trying to place himself above the authority of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong?

“If so, then he and anyone who shares his stance should be firmly reprimanded and re-educated on the fundamentals of Malaysian nationhood,” Sollehin said.

Earlier, Lim drew flak from Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh for claiming that Umno’s push for the house arrest addendum not only erodes the principles of justice, but also fuels public perception of preferential treatment for powerful political elites.

The DAP MP had responded to Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, who said the party hopes that the decision by the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) not to dispute the existence of the addendum will allow Najib to be placed under house arrest.

“It is hoped that by the grace of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, that Najib may be granted a reduction in his sentence, which has been delayed for over a year,” he said.
