Muhyiddin meets Muda, PSM, others, sans PAS on forming united front

Several opposition parties held talks with Perikatan Nasional chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin today on the possibility of forming a united front over issues affecting national and public interest.

Apart from the top leaders of Gerakan, Malaysian Indian People’s Party, Pejuang, and Urimai, the meeting was also attended by PSM deputy chairperson S Arutchelvan and Muda acting president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz.

Oddly, PAS leaders were absent from the meeting despite the party being a major component of PN.

“The idea to form this alliance among parties is to strengthen our role in providing checks and balances as opposition members, be it inside or outside the Parliament.

“Those who attended the meeting gave a positive response to the idea.

“InsyaAllah, I will table the views shared in the meeting in the upcoming PN supreme council meeting,” Muhyiddin said in a statement.

Two days ago, Bersatu secretary-general Azmin Ali said the party has given Muhyiddin the mandate to spearhead efforts in forming a united opposition front.

The move, according to the party, is aimed at establishing a common position on issues affecting public interest.

The proposal is expected to be tabled at the Perikatan Nasional presidential council meeting scheduled for this weekend.
