Heed Rukun Negara, stop Ali Baba practice with foreigners: Nga

PARLIAMENT | Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming today urged Malaysian petty traders to appreciate the principles of Rukun Negara and stop loaning their licences to foreigners.

Speaking at the Dewan Rakyat, he revealed that the problem persisted despite local authorities having taken actions against proxies for foreigners.

According to Nga, between 2023 and this month, local authorities nationwide have carried out 3,703 operations against business premises controlled by foreigners and issued over 14,800 compounds.

They have also cancelled 23 licences and seized 2,880 premises for violating rules, including unlawful transfer of their business permits to foreigners.

"Authorities have even seized their goods and revoked licenses. What we need is the citizens to respect the Rukun Negara principles so they would not allow their identities to be abused.

"However, like the English idiom says, it takes two to tango.

"That is why, as Malaysian citizens, we should appreciate the government's efforts and policies in spurring the local economies and not give the benefits to foreigners, especially the undocumented migrants," he said during a question-and-answer session this morning.

The minister was responding to a question posed by Hasnizan Harun (PN-Hulu Selangor).
