Apologise to Thailand, Cambodia - Harapan leaders tell Fadhli

Two leaders urged PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari to apologise to everyone over his insulting remarks on the Thailand-Cambodia ceasefire agreement, which was mediated by Malaysia.

Taking to X, PKR Youth chief Kamil Abdul Munim said Malaysia should not defend reckless and imbecilic actions made by someone who has no respect for other countries, especially neighbouring nations.

“Certainly, we will also disagree if our beloved nation was also insulted in a similar manner,” said the aide to Anwar Ibrahim at the Finance Ministry.

Yesterday, MalaysiaDateline reported Fadhli (above) getting berated by netizens after he uploaded a picture depicting a goat and sheep fighting over a banana, with a monkey presiding as a judge.

The Pasir Mas added a caption saying: “A monkey need not preside over the case involving a goat and sheep fighting over a banana”, while placing a news article on the Thailand-Cambodia conflict on the side.

The post is no longer available on Fadhli’s social media account.

This comes after Anwar successfully mediated an unconditional ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia, effective midnight, following peace talks organised by the Tambun MP in Putrajaya.

Anwar, as Asean chair, said the ceasefire is among the common understandings reached at the meeting attended by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and acting Thai Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai.

M’sia’s efforts praiseworthy

Livid over the matter, Kamil said Anwar’s efforts in mediating the ceasefire have nothing to do with partisan politics but rather cement Malaysia’s role as a respected nation in the region.

The PKR leader pointed out that Malaysia’s efforts were not only praised by the US and China but also Asean.

“However, some decided to belittle and dispute the government’s noble efforts.

“Ironically, the ones mocking us are not outsiders but our local opposition members, who seem to be more delighted to see us fail rather than recognising our achievements,” he lamented.

Kamil then pointed out that when Perikatan Nasional was in power, the administration did not achieve such a monumental diplomatic victory.

“Now, with the Madani administration making waves in the international arena and playing an active role in mediating peace, our opposition decides to plant the seed of hatred and vindictiveness.

“This is the narrow politics we must reject and disallow from becoming a liability to our nation’s good name.

“Their actions are clearly unpatriotic and embarrassing to the nation,” Kamil added.

Overboard

Echoing Kamil’s sentiments, DAP MP Syahredzan Johan said Fadhli went overboard with his criticisms.

The Bangi lawmaker also mocked Fadhli’s actions by saying the PAS leader has given a clear indication of what PN would do when facing a regional conflict.

“It seems Fadhli has deleted the post, but it’s insufficient. He should apologise to the people of Thailand, Cambodia and our prime minister for the post.

“If you can’t contribute positively, at least, don’t make negative remarks,” he added.
