Cops seize ketum juice, nab 2 brothers after 90km chase in Shah Alam

Two brothers in a Proton Wira led police on a high-speed chase that lasted for almost an hour around Shah Alam early morning today, before they were caught with a bottle of ketum juice.

According to Shah Alam district police chief Iqbal Ibrahim, a police patrol car spotted the Wira at the Section 7 Commercial Centre around 1.30am and ordered its driver to pull over for checks.

However, instead of stopping, the driver, later identified as the 24-year-old older brother, sped away and tried to lose the police tail by driving around the district.

“The chase went on for about 90km with the assistance of six additional police MPVs (mobile patrol vehicles).

“After about an hour, police managed to intercept the car at Section 9, just across the Selangor state police headquarters’ entrance.

“Two suspects aged 18 and 24 were arrested and police checks found a bottle containing green liquid, which we suspect is ketum juice, under the front passenger seat,” Iqbal said in a statement.

Police then learned that the two are brothers, with the elder sibling having five previous drug-related convictions while the other has no criminal record.

Iqbal said both suspects are being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their public functions, and Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act that deals with offences related to the control of import, export, manufacture, and sale of psychotropic substances.

Under Section 186, the brothers can be punished with a jail term not exceeding two years or a maximum of RM10,000 fine, while Section 30 carries a maximum punishment of RM100,000 fine or five years jail, or both.
