Hamzah to Muhyiddin: 'I am your man!'

Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin has stressed that he is not a traitor to party president Muhyiddin Yassin.

He emphasised that he has always been one of Muhyiddin’s main supporters in leading the party.

“I am the number one supporter of the president! I am your man!” Hamzah enthusiastically declared during his winding-up speech at Bersatu’s eighth annual general assembly today.

The parliamentary opposition leader added that he will continue to stand by Muhyiddin, asserting that Bersatu will be his political home until his final breath.

“I want to tell Muhyiddin, trust us... We here love Muhyiddin, we here love the party. Even if I were to be expelled, which other party would I go to? This is my last party.

“Believe me, I have sacrificed so much for this party. I have done it sincerely for our president. So, don’t consider us a group of traitors.

“I want to make it clear, I am not a traitor. I am a friend by the president’s side, someone who stands with the president, who serves the president - nothing more than that,” he assured.

The two leaders also joined hands and hugged on stage.

At a press conference later, when asked for his reaction, Muhyiddin addressed Hamzah, who was beside him and said, “Thank you, Hamzah.”

“We are all friends. But of course, some people, as you know, they create a perception that Hamzah and I are not good friends,” he added.

Dream team

Referring to Bersatu’s top leaders seated alongside him at the presser, Muhyiddin said, “The last party election, we made an understanding. All these (leaders) here are named by me.”

“This is our dream team. Hamzah reiterated (loyalty), not for the first time in public, I hold on to what he said.

“I believe he is genuine, and we hope now is not just a good start but continuing what has been happening before. Stronger than ever.

“That is more important for the sake of the party,” he said.
