Seputeh Umno: FT Dept broke promise on residents' council posts

Umno’s unhappiness with Pakatan Harapan over political appointments in the Federal Territories has flared again, this time with the Seputeh division insisting it was sidelined from the Residents’ Representative Council (MPPWP).

Seputeh Umno secretary Nurul Hazwani Haslan claimed that the Federal Territories Department reneged on its promise to appoint party representatives for the 2025-2028 term.

“Seputeh Umno previously remained patient despite not being given a single position in the 2024-2025 Seputeh MPPWP, after being promised appointments for the following term.

“However, the promise was broken for the July 2025 to 2028 term. Therefore, on Aug 6, 2025, Seputeh Umno rejected all positions offered in the new MPPWP term,” she said in a statement yesterday.

Nurul Hazwani was responding to a statement from Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustaffa’s political secretary, Nur Azrin Surip, who said people’s welfare must take precedence over individual or party struggles.

Nur Azrin made the remark to counter allegations by Batu Umno chief Gulam Muszaffar Shah Gulam Mustakim and Rural and Regional Development Minister’s political secretary Razlan Rafii, who both claimed their party members were sidelined in the Federal Territories.

She stressed that MPPWP political appointments also included BN representatives.

Proposed candidates ignored

However, Nurul Hazwani said the second round of appointments in Seputeh ignored Umno’s proposed candidates.

“Instead, appointments were made based on membership in local clubs and associations. This clearly shows that the Federal Territories Department does not want Umno’s involvement in serving Seputeh residents,” she added.

The division reminded that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had decided MPPWP appointments must follow the party composition of the unity government.

“However, this was not implemented in Seputeh and several other constituencies. This marks the second round of MPPWP appointments under the unity government, yet fairness is still not achieved.

“This is not about individual struggles but the collective responsibility of championing the people,” said Nurul Hazwani.

Previously, Gulam Muszaffar resigned as a trustee of the Federal Territories Foundation after Batu Umno severed ties with Harapan.

He said Batu Umno’s decision was triggered by dissatisfaction over the distribution of MPP subzones, claiming Harapan failed to honour a promise to give Umno one of six subzones, which instead went to PKR.

He also alleged that PKR’s Batu MP P Prabakaran had never allocated funds to Umno for constituency work.
