Cops to refer school stabbing investigation papers to AGC today

The police will refer their investigation paper on the school stabbing which claimed the life of a 16-year-old girl to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) today.

Petaling Jaya district police chief Shamsudin Mamat confimed the matter to Malaysiakini.

Previously, the 14-year-old suspect was remanded for seven days, from Oct 15 to 21, and that the police were investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

“We have obtained an extended period of remand on the suspect, starting today till Oct 28, and we will also be referring the investigation paper to prosecutors for their consideration,” he said.

The victim, Yap Shing Xuen, was killed at the girls’ toilet at her school in Bandar Utama, Selangor, on Oct 14, with reports stating that unrequited love was among the angles being investigated in the case.

Yap’s mother, Wong Lee Ping, held a press conference two days later, where she claimed that her daughter was stabbed 200 times from the upper right side of her body, down to her leg area.

At the same press conference, Yap’s stepfather, How Boon Chin, pleaded for social media users to refrain from spreading falsehoods about his stepdaughter as the family is focused on finding answers.

Following this claim, the police confirmed on Oct 17 that Yap suffered multiple stab wounds but could not confirm the number, as they were still awaiting the autopsy report.
