PKR contests Moyog, Harapan set to clash with GRS in several seats

PKR is fielding Remysta Taylor as its candidate for Moyog, setting up a contest against Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) despite the seat being part of the GRS–Pakatan Harapan electoral arrangement.

Remysta (above, centre), who arrived early at the nomination centre, declined to comment on the party’s decision to place him in Moyog.

“I think it was a last-minute decision,” he said briefly as he walked into the hall.

Penampang is shaping up as one of the election’s most contested districts, with battles in both Moyog and Kapayan.

Harapan is defending Kapayan through DAP incumbent Jannie Lasimbang.

Harapan is also expected to clash with GRS in other constituencies, including Kadamaian in Kota Belud and Bandau in Kota Marudu.

In Bandau, it is understood PKR will field Kota Marudu division chief Zaidi Jaitil against GRS–Gagasan Rakyat Sabah candidate Redonah Bahanda.

It is not yet clear who PKR will field in Kadamaian.

Seat pact shift

Prior to official nominations, GRS had announced 55 candidates while Harapan unveiled 18 - 10 PKR, seven DAP, and one Amanah.

All candidates vying for the 73 state seats have until 10am to submit their nomination forms, after which returning officers will announce the list of eligible candidates.

The Election Commission said that as of Thursday, a total of 3,334 nomination forms for the 17th Sabah state election had been sold, with 2,414 sets sold by the Sabah State Election Office and 920 sets via returning officers’ offices.
