Mas Ermieyati stands firm amid Bersatu's PN resignation wave

Bersatu’s Masjid Tanah MP Mas Ermieyati Samsudin is standing firm amid a wave of resignations by her party colleagues from their Perikatan Nasional posts that followed Muhyiddin Yassin’s move to step down as PN chairperson.

In a statement today, she acknowledged calls for her to resign and said she has no intention to do so.

“I wish to stress that my decision not to resign is not driven by any personal interest, let alone an attempt to cling to positions or power.

“Rather, it is based on considerations of responsibility, organisational stability, and the interests of PN’s struggle at the state level,” she said in a Facebook post today.

Mas Ermieyati is the PN women’s chief and Malacca PN chief.

She said she would relinquish her PN posts only if it is a mature, collective decision made in the interest of the party and coalition, not based on “short-lived emotional pressure and sentiments”. The relations between Bersatu and PAS in Malacca remain harmonious, she said, despite the recent political turmoil in Perlis.

In addition, the PN chapter in Malacca is in a crucial phase of preparing for the next state election, which is due by February 2027. She said it could be held as soon as within the next four to six months.

“Continuity and close cooperation among the leadership are vital to ensure that fieldwork, machinery organisation, and strategies can proceed in an orderly and effective manner.

“Any sudden changes only risk weakening the momentum being built together,” she said.

‘Harmonious relatioship’

Calls for her resignation came amid a slew of Bersatu leaders resigning from their PN posts, after Muhyiddin tendered his resignation as the coalition chief.

Among top leaders who have announced their departures were Bersatu secretary-general Azmin Ali, Bersatu vice-president Ahmad Faizal Azumu, former Johor menteri besar Dr Sahruddin Jamal, and Negeri Sembilan PN chief Hanifah Abu Baker.

However, Mas Ermieyati dismissed claims that her position had been automatically nullified by Muhyiddin’s resignation, saying appointments at both state and central levels are made collectively by the PN supreme council, not tied to the tenure of any single individual.

“I also share the view of the PN deputy chairpersons in Kelantan and Terengganu, who earlier stated that relations between Bersatu and PAS in their states remain good and harmonious and are not affected by the issue at hand. This harmonious relationship mirrors the situation in Malacca.

“So why is only the Malacca PN chairpersonship being singled out and used as fodder for accusations, while the chairpersonships in other states, including PN-governed states such as Kelantan, Terengganu, and Kedah, which are still held by PAS, are neither raised nor questioned?” she added.
