Bersatu leader pledges cooperation in RM1.1m graft probe

A Bersatu division chief implicated in an RM1.1 million corruption allegation purportedly linked to the Jana Wibawa programme has pledged cooperation with any police probe based on a report by another Bersatu division leader.

Kota Melaka Bersatu division chief Hishamuddin Abdul Karim said he noted that Hulu Langat Bersatu information chief Shafiq Abdul Halim had lodged a police report alleging that he received approximately RM1.1 million in cash and various assets from a company linked to the Jana Wibawa programme.

“I am informed of the matter (allegations). For the time being, I have no response to share,” Hishamuddin (above) told Malaysiakini.

“I believe that the police will be fair, and InsyaAllah I will cooperate,” he said when quizzed further.

Links to case being tried

Shafiq, at a press conference yesterday, claimed the information was contained in a purported ledger document revealing records of financial transactions allegedly by a company involved in the Jana Wibawa programme.

“From this ledger, if we look at it, there are several names mentioned that are indeed linked to the case being tried,” he was quoted as saying by Sinar Daily.

"The document is believed to have originated from a company linked to the Jana Wibawa Programme, which is being tried in court in connection with a project worth RM232 million,” he reportedly said.

The document was also shared with the media, together with the report lodged at Dang Wangi police station.

The purported document, among others, recorded cash payments totalling RM774,500, two mobile phones worth RM15,000, two laptop computers valued at RM10,000, a locally branded vehicle and a luxury car, including insurance and road tax.

“I would also like to inform that copies of the ledger document and other supporting materials have been handed over to the authorities as preliminary evidence.

"The witness who provided the document has also volunteered to assist the investigations by the police and MACC,” Shafiq was quoted as saying.

Jana Wibawa was introduced during former premier Muhyiddin Yassin’s administration to accelerate projects and improve the economy during the pandemic.
