According to the charge sheet, the singer, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, was accused of possessing the drug at a hotel in Jalan Conlay, within the Dang Wangi area, around 4.30pm on Oct 22, 2025.
He was charged under Section 9(1) of the Poisons Act 1952 and is punishable under Section 32(2) of the same Act, which carries a maximum fine of RM50,000 or a maximum term of five years' imprisonment, or both.
Section 9(1) of the Poisons Act prohibits anyone, whether licensed or not, from selling, supplying, keeping or possessing any poison, except in strict accordance with the Act’s regulation concerning its packaging, labelling and storage.
He had claimed trial before magistrate Atiqah Mohamed @ Saim, in which the latter then fixed March 5 for mention.
Deputy public prosecutor Nurainizatul Farhana Zainal prosecuted, while lawyer Joshua Tay represented Wee.
In the same proceeding, Wee also pleaded not guilty to an amended charge of possessing 1.57g of methamphetamine at the same location and time.
Namewee was previously arrested on Oct 22 last year after he was found with nine pills suspected to be ecstasy in a Kuala Lumpur hotel room where a Taiwanese influencer had died.
He was subsequently charged at two separate magistrate courts two days later with one count of possessing 5.12g of ecstasy before Atiqah and one count of administering amphetamine, methamphetamine, tetrahydrocannabinol, and ketamine before magistrate S Arunjothy.
Arunjothy, however, acquitted Namewee on Dec 22 of administering drug charges following his negative urine test.
