Muslims in Malaysia will celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri this Saturday (March 21), Keeper of the Rulers' Seal Syed Danial Syed Ahmad announced in a televised address this evening.
"In fulfilment of the command of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, and with the gracious consent of their Royal Highnesses the rulers, the Keeper of the Rulers' Seal hereby declares that Hari Raya Puasa for all states throughout Malaysia has been set for Saturday, March 21," he said.
The announcement ended days of uncertainty, as many had already returned home to their families ahead of the festivities, even though the official date could only be confirmed once the crescent moon had been sighted - as it is customary.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim previously announced that tomorrow would be an additional Hari Raya holiday if the celebration fell on Saturday.
The holy month of Ramadan began on Feb 19.
