Nurul Izzah Anwar has stressed that she remains committed to carrying out her responsibilities as the PKR deputy president following rumours that she is stepping down.

“I wish to clarify that claims regarding my resignation are not true.

“I remain committed to carrying out this mandate in line with my responsibilities and the party’s processes, and there have been no changes to the leadership structure,” she said in a brief statement.

Nurul Izzah, who is the daughter of PKR president and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, urged the public not to be influenced by unverified information.

Previously, Malaysiakini quoted PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh as denying the resignation rumours.

PKR information chief and Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil also dismissed the rumours, branding them as “fake news”.

The rumours of Nurul Izzah’s resignation surfaced amid businessperson Victor Chin’s latest claims regarding the “corporate mafia” scandal, including allegations that a PKR MP had received RM9.5 million from him to resolve his legal troubles.

Nurul Izzah has been a vocal critic of the MACC, focusing on the need for systemic reform, stronger accountability, and parliamentary oversight to ensure public trust.

The former Permatang Pauh MP broke ranks with her father when she opposed extending MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki’s contract for a third term, stating she would raise the matter directly with Anwar if elected as PKR deputy president.

There has been mounting pressure over Azam’s shareholding scandal and allegations that MACC officers had colluded with private individuals to strong-arm business rivals and abet corporate takeovers.
