PAS wants DAP rep suspended over pig farming proposal, Jamal says she can leave S'gor
Selangor PAS Youth and Selangor BN have accused DAP assemblyperson Wong Siew Ki of being rude and disrespecting the Selangor sultan’s royal decree on pig farming.
While Selangor PAS Youth chief Sukri Omar called for the Seri Kembangan assemblyperson to be suspended from the state legislative assembly for 12 months, Selangor BN information chief Jamal Yunos said she is welcome to leave the state.
Wong (above), while debating the state ruler’s royal address, told the house that the issue of pig farming touches on equality rights under Article 8(2) of the Federal Constitution.
She argued that pig farming should not be treated differently from other livestock, noting that pollution risks, hygiene, and health concerns are comparable across livestock types.
She also expressed regret that various parties, including former politicians, had politicised the issue.
She further proposed that the government and investors consider the adoption of a modern, closed-house pig farming system in Selangor, incorporating zero-discharge processes and biogas recycling technologies.
‘It’s been decided’
However, Sukri said Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s decree is clear in its position that there will be no further pig farming in the state.
“The proposal to introduce a closed-house pig farming system clearly challenges the decree.
“When the decree is already clear, any attempt to revive the proposal - even if wrapped in modern terminology - still reflects a rude attitude,” he added in a statement.

Sukri noted that the state government had previously decided against issuing new pig farming licences across all districts and had also moved to phase out existing farms.
“Raising this issue in the assembly is not merely a discussion on technology, but involves matters of etiquette and respect for decisions that have been finalised at the highest level of the state.
“Freedom of debate in the assembly is not a licence to revive matters that have already been decided. Especially when the issue touches on respect for the royal institution, communal harmony, and public sensitivities,” he added.
Reminder for Wong
Jamal, who is also Sungai Besar Umno chief, reminded Wong that as an assemblyperson, she had taken an oath to uphold the sultan’s decrees.
He said Sultan Sharafuddin has never restricted the right of non-Malay/non-Muslim communities to eat pork.

“His concern is solely on matters of cleanliness, pollution, and health impacts arising from pig farming, which not only pollutes the environment but also affects other groups of people who are not ‘pork eaters’.
“Therefore, Wong’s statement is completely disrespectful. She can leave Selangor if she does not want to abide by the decree of his royal highness.
“My message to Wong is: do not ever be disrespectful towards his royal highness. We will not remain silent if our sultan is insulted in such a manner,” he added.
