Anti-Azam rally

  • Muda president Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz said that the rally against outgoing MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki will proceed as planned, despite the announcement of his successor today.

    The Puteri Wangsa assemblyperson asserted that the protest is not about leadership changes, but a “festering” system that needs to be fixed. Taking to Instagram, Amira said that those taking part in the rally previously demanded the establishment of a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) to probe Azam as well as reformations to the appointment process of the MACC chief, such as parliamentary oversight.

  • Former economy minister Rafizi Ramli has alleged that there are attempts to introduce propaganda placards at the “Tangkap Azam Baki” rally later today, which he said were intended solely to suggest that he harbours ambitions to become prime minister.

    In a statement on X, Rafizi urged those present to remain vigilant, adding that if placards carrying such messages were seen, they should be politely asked to be taken down.

    Rafizi stressed that the gathering had no political agenda and was not organised in support of any individual or political party. He said instead that it was simply an expression of concern by a small group of ordinary citizens who want to see a better Malaysia. 

    He had previously announced his support for the rally and confirmed his attendance. 

Pig farming

  • DAP adviser Lim Guan Eng today called on PAS and Perikatan Nasional not to inflame sentiments against DAP's Seri Kembangan assemblyperson Wong Siew Ki for merely suggesting that the Selangor government reconsider its approach to pig farming.

    In a statement on Facebook today, Lim said that PAS should not behave irresponsibly by accusing Wong of being “treasonous” by raising the issue, as she did not question nor make any lies against the Selangor ruler, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

    He said that this is in contrast with the statement by then minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law), Takiyuddin Hassan who informed Parliament that the government had already revoked the Covid-era Emergency Ordinances effective July 21, 2021.

    However, the Istana Negara later issued a strong statement expressing the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s deep disappointment. The palace clarified that the revocation had not yet received the king’s consent, as required under the Federal Constitution.

Leaked video probe

  • A Parti Putra member has lodged a police report over a recent video leak allegedly implicating businessperson Sofia Rini Buyong, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, and his former aide, Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak.

    In a statement today, the party’s information chief, Shahrulutfi Sharif, said the report was lodged yesterday at Dang Wangi police station by member Norsharizal Nordin.

    The report called on the police to open an investigation paper and take immediate action, including detaining Sofia and a man heard speaking with her in the video clip, in order to record their statements.

    Shahrulutfi also urged MPs, political parties, NGOs, students and concerned citizens to speak up and take appropriate action in the interest of national security and the country’s well-being.
