Negeri Sembilan Umno has withdrawn its support for Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun, who is from Pakatan Harapan.
Its chairperson, Jalaluddin Alias, said the decision was made unanimously by all 14 assemblypersons due to their loss of confidence in Aminuddin’s leadership.
He told a press conference that an official letter will be sent to the state assembly speaker and secretary after the event.
Jalaluddin also said that Negeri Sembilan Umno had only become aware of the ongoing royal dispute when it became public knowledge.
“We also want to emphasise that we fully support and defend the customary institutions, the constitution and laws governing the Negeri Sembilan government.
“(We) want a stable government so that it can play the best possible role in the administration of the state while also being able to focus on the objectives of the well-being of the state’s people and economy,” he said.

According to the livestream, 12 other state Umno leaders were present at the press conference.

Nineteen seats are needed to form a government in Negeri Sembilan, and Harapan only has 17 - meaning BN’s exit will cause the state government to collapse.
There are two possible scenarios following this.
The first is that BN may compel Harapan to support one of its assemblypersons to become menteri besar to keep the Madani pact intact.
The second is that BN can team up with Perikatan Nasional, which has five seats, leading to the collapse of the Madani coalition at the state level.
Ummah unity
Adding to the intrigue was a cryptic post by PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, who congratulated Negeri Sembilan Umno.
“Congratulations, Negeri Sembilan Umno, for initiating the move to unite the ‘ummah’ (Muslim community),” he said.

PAS has consistently called on all Malay-Muslim political parties to join hands to safeguard the interests of race and religion.

Umno's decision today comes on the heels of an ongoing royal crisis in the state.
Chieftain’s removal disputed
In May last year, factions within Sungai Ujong’s traditional leadership moved to remove its undang, Mubarak Thahak, citing 33 alleged breaches of customary law, with reports also linking some accusations to alleged violations of syariah principles.
On April 17 this year, a special sitting of Negeri Sembilan Council of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar and the Ruling Chiefs was convened, during which Aminuddin said the council agreed to advise Sungai Ujong to accept Mubarak’s prior dismissal.
However, this interpretation was later disputed by other undangs.

Aminuddin reportedly said Mubarak's dismissal had taken effect on May 13, 2025, under Sungai Ujong’s customary mechanisms.
In an April 20 declaration and subsequent statements, Mubarak, together with the undangs of Johol, Jelebu and Rembau, as well as Tunku Besar Tampin, challenged Aminuddin’s claim that the council had collectively endorsed his removal.
They argued that no unanimous or binding decision had been reached during the April 17 meeting.
Former Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Rais Yatim also claimed that during the council meeting, the three aforementioned undangs and the Tunku Besar Tampin, had disagreed with Mubarak’s removal.
He argued that Mubarak’s removal lacked validity because key ruling chiefs had not collectively agreed to it, raising constitutional and customary concerns over the process.
Questions likewise persisted over whether Mubarak had been granted sufficient opportunity to defend himself against the allegations.
