Negeri Sembilan crisis

• PSM’s Negeri Sembilan chapter has called for a fresh election in the state, saying it is a dignified move for the Pakatan Harapan-led administration to return to the people for a new decision.

  “We don’t want a repeat of the Sheraton Move strategy where elected representatives and politicians make their own moves - merging and dissolving as they please without listening to the people,” said its chairperson, Tinagaran Subramaniam, in a statement.

  He also acknowledged that Negeri Sembilan has its own unique customs, but expressed hope it would not stand in the way of a government elected by the people.

Selangor assembly

• A commotion broke out in the Selangor assembly today, resulting in opposition members Dr Afif Bahardin (PN-Taman Medan) and Rafiq Abdullah (PN-Kuang) being suspended by speaker Lau Weng San.

  According to Bernama, commotion began when Afif interrupted Housing and Culture Committee chairperson Borhan Aman Shah’s winding-up speech to demand that Lau explain why he rejected his motion to refer Wong Siew Ki (Harapan-Seri Kembangan) for disciplinary proceedings over her speech on pig farming in the state, and refused the speaker’s orders to sit down.

  

  Lau reportedly said Afif’s motion was not compliant with the rules and defective.

  Rafiq was suspended after being seen disrupting Borhan’s speech. The suspensions also prompted all opposition members to stage a walkout.

  A similar commotion broke out last Thursday when Afif questioned Lau about the same motion.

Taxes

• The e-invoicing system introduced in August 2024 has helped the Inland Revenue Board uncover non-compliance involving RM3.5 billion in previously unreported income, Bernama reported.

  The board said it has been issuing reminders, or “nudges”, to encourage taxpayers to disclose any undeclared income. This resulted in 38,906 taxpayers submitting tax returns involving RM760.7 million in taxes payable.

  

  Those who fail to submit their returns despite reminders may face action, including audits and enforcement action.
