Politics

  • DAP veteran Tony Pua has denied having any interest or involvement in any “imaginary” factional war within the party, emphasising that he has retired from politics.

He said this in a Facebook post last night, after former Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli responded to Pua’s scathing attack against PKR MPs aligned with him but refused to quit to join Bersama, by telling Pua to stay in his lane and not drag others into a purported internal conflict within DAP.

“Definitely not interested in wanting to drag wannabe Bersama member(s) into the DAP [...]

“No, please. He/they can go Bersama (together). So please don’t drag DAP in to cover up for (his/their) wimpiness,” Pua said.

Health

  • Following reports of a Covid-19 surge in Singapore, the Health Ministry said the situation in Malaysia remains stable and has shown a significant downtrend compared to last year.

“Although there was a 0.7 percent increase (575 additional cases during the Epidemiological Week 19/2026, compared to the previous week), the situation remains under control,” it said.

It added that most cases were mild and did not require hospital treatment, and there were no deaths related to Covid-19 thus far this year.

Genomic surveillance detected several new subvariants of the virus, but it did not show any tendency to trigger a serious wave of infections.

Singapore reported 12,700 Covid-19 cases for the week of May 10 to 16, compared to 8,000 cases in the previous week.

Defence

  • Pahang Crown Prince Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah has expressed concern over the environmental impact of plans to hold military exercises in the state, particularly its islands.

He urges the Malaysian Armed Forces and relevant agencies to obtain royal assent from the Pahang sultan before conducting any military exercise in Pahang.

“His Highness does not oppose military activities to improve the skills and experience of military officers and personnel, but such activities should be done in a controlled manner that is safe, responsible, and in harmony with the environment and all parties,” the palace said in a statement.
