• Police have confirmed that the widow of former finance minister Daim Zainuddin, Na’imah Abdul Khalid, and their two sons, Amir Zainuddin and Amin Zainuddin, are overseas.

  Bernama quoted Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director M Kumar as saying that police have been trying to contact Na’imah since investigations into allegations of a plot to topple the government began earlier this year.

  However, checks revealed that they have been out of the country since the investigation started.

  

  He added that police have recorded statements from 17 people to assist investigations, and is awaiting feedback from the Attorney-General’s Chambers after submitting its investigation papers.

  Na’imah had denied allegations of conspiring with an “influential individual” and international media agencies to topple the government.

• Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director M Kumar said the police will obtain a statement from a constitutional law expert to complete investigations into former Damansara MP Tony Pua’s Facebook post regarding the Rukun Negara and constitutional monarchy.

  Free Malaysia Today quoted him as saying that, so far, police have recorded statements from 95 individuals to assist investigations.

Politics

• Amid a wave of resignations that have hit some PKR divisions, all 14 divisional leaders and their committees in Kelantan have declared loyalty to the party and support for party president Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership.

  In a statement, Kelantan PKR secretary Rahim Hasan said none of its leadership has any plans to join Parti Bersama Malaysia.

  

  “For us, the reformasi struggle championed by PKR all this time is not seasonal and cannot be sacrificed just because of differences of opinion on current affairs.

  “Loyalty to the party and its leadership is a key foundation to strengthen the struggle for the people,” he said.

Employment

• The government will take measures within the next two weeks to assist those who have lost their jobs, following reports of an uptick in the job loss data.

  Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the issue had already been discussed at a National Economic Action Council meeting. While the figure has yet to reach an alarming level, he said the government views its impact on individuals and families seriously.

  

  “So within the next week or two, there will be other measures to help restore the situation and provide several new job opportunities, especially for young people,” Bernama quoted him as saying.

  Previously, Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Nasir said 7,057 workers lost their jobs in April, a 21 percent increase from 5,855 cases in March.
