• Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak has filed an application at the Court of Appeal to introduce new evidence in his 1MDB appeal case.

  Free Malaysia Today reported that the application under Section 61 of the Court of Judicature Act 165 and Rule 7A of the Court of Appeal Rules 1994 was filed last week.

  Najib, in his application, wants to adduce fresh evidence involving fugitive financier Low Taek Jho, or known as Jho Low, as well as for 1MDB former legal counsel Jasmine Loo, who was also the prosecution’s 50th witness, to be before the court during the 1MDB-appeal hearing.

  Najib’s lawyer Farhan Shafee confirmed the application to Malaysiakini when contacted, and said the court has fixed June 19 for case management.

  Najib, who is imprisoned over his SRC International Sdn Bhd corruption conviction, was separately sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment and fined RM11.38 billion after being convicted on four counts of abuse of power and 21 money laundering charges linked to 1MDB funds.

• Bersatu secretary-general Azmin Ali, in a statement, "strongly denies" speculation that the party is planning to cooperate with Pakatan Harapan again.

  

  He also dismissed allegations that there were discussions between Bersatu and PKR leaders to establish cooperation with Harapan.

  "This malicious and baseless allegation had come from a group of politicians bankrupt of any values, and is merely an attempt to cover up their failures and betrayal surrounding the Bangkok Move," Azmin said, referring to a supposed political meeting between a number of leaders representing Malay parties earlier this year.

  Azmin also urged the public not to be fooled by unverified news that is supposedly aimed at weakening Bersatu.

• The Johor legislative assembly has called for a one-day sitting this June 22, sparking speculations on its agenda.

  Taking to Facebook, Johor Jaya lawmaker Liow Cai Tung questioned the purpose of the meeting, noting that it was scheduled for just one day and explicitly stated that there would be no question-and-answer session.

  

  She noted that the state assembly can be dissolved without calling for a sitting.

  "If this is not to dissolve the Johor state assembly, then what is the agenda of this sitting? Let's guess and see," Liow said.
