• A former Health Ministry specialist doctor has panned the government’s plan for a new hospital in Petaling Jaya, urging that the administration first sort the existing manpower crisis in the public healthcare system.

  In a Facebook statement, former Putrajaya Hospital nephrologist Dr Rafidah Abdullah said that she is “sick and tired” of the government’s plans on new initiatives, while relying on its existing stretched manpower.

  She said that the government healthcare workers are already “hanging by a thread”.

  “Even existing government hospitals do not have enough staff. Not enough anywhere. Some worse than others.

  “Just shelve the plan. Bury it, forget about it altogether. The opening of hospitals or any government healthcare facilities should not become a political game or bargaining chip,” she added.

Public transport

• The Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) has opened an investigation paper into the LRT train derailment near the Chan Sow Lin station yesterday morning.

In a statement today, Apad said that following the incident, it immediately carried out a site inspection to assess the initial situation and ensure the operator, Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, took prompt action.

Prasarana has also been instructed to submit a full report on the incident as soon as possible.

"The first inspection was led by the Apad director-general, along with representatives from the Rail Enforcement Division and Rail Planning Division. A second inspection session was later conducted at 3pm involving officials from the Transport Ministry, to review the early progress of the investigation and the operational safety measures in place," it said.

Apad added that investigations are focused on identifying the derailment's actual cause, including examining compliance with standard operating procedures, asset maintenance, safety systems, and train operations.
