• Johor DAP assemblyperson Marina Ibrahim has decided to retire from politics after just one term in office ahead of the next state election.

  In a Facebook post today, the 38-year-old did not say why she had chosen to retire, but said she would return to doing community service work.

  She thanked her supporters and apologised for any shortcomings during her tenure as Skudai assemblyperson.

• Perikatan Nasional will contest all 28 state seats in the next Malacca state election, said coalition deputy chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin at a ceramah last night, according to Bernama.

  

  In the 2021 state election, PN won just two state seats. However, it went on to win three of the six Parliament seats in the 2022 general election.

• Pejuang president Mukhriz Mahathir denied that former Bersatu president Hamzah Zainudin will be joining his party.

  “That is not true,” Mukhriz told Berita Harian, while also denying that the two are in talks for political cooperation.

Environment

• The Terengganu government said it will take action against a hotel in Perhentian if it has polluted the seawater.

  This is after a viral video showed cloudy water being discharged underwater from pipes originating from the hotel.

  “Based on the initial information received, the discharge seen in the video is said to be wastewater treated according to established standards, but the matter is still under review,” Free Malaysia Today quoted exco member Razali Idris, who oversees tourism and the environment, as saying.

  

  The portal also quoted Perhentian Marriott Resort & Spa as saying that the water was treated and that the discharge method was temporary pending modification works.
